The Criminal Defense Team

More than 15,000 lawyers practice in Indiana, but only 6 can claim the title of Board Certified* Criminal Law Specialist. Amazingly, 5 of those 6 certified specialists work closely together in the same law firm… our firm. Our team has been assembled by design, not happenstance.

The first time I walked into The Criminal Defense Team’s office I was a law clerk at the State Public Defender’s Office. I saw the many news articles on different cases that the Team had worked on. All were achievements with very unique and intriguing storylines.

The case that I was meeting with Andrew Baldwin on actually had a news article up, it was a high profile case and definitely very interesting. The Team’s client was charged with Murder but because of their hard work and investigation they secured an incredible result saving the client at least thirty years in prison. I instantly knew that this is the type of law firm that I wanted to work for once I passed the bar.

When the Team had an open attorney position, even though I hadn’t passed the Bar Exam yet, I jumped at the opportunity and applied. Since I was not yet an attorney, I didn’t get that open position, but was offered a position helping one of the Attorneys with Expungements and Modifications. And sure enough, after passing the Indiana Bar Exam I was welcomed into the firm to take over handling Expungements, Modifications, and Specialized Driving Privilege matters.

I have worked in the criminal defense field since 2005. I began my career as a paralegal at Christ, Hadler & Brothers. I learned a lot about what an average day looks like for a criminal defense lawyer and saw the humanity in what it was like for someone accused of a crime. I loved the work but wanted to be able to do more. That is when I decided that I wanted to go to law school. So, I took the steps needed and began my journey at IU McKinney School of Law. While attending law school I worked at the State Public Defender Office as a legal assistant and then a law clerk. The State PD handles post-conviction proceedings for individuals that have been convicted and sentenced to the Indiana Department of Corrections. It was eye-opening seeing the sentences that were frequently handed down and even more shocking realizing that those long sentences were sometimes the result of attorneys that were ineffective or didn’t do basic things that could have better protected and helped their client. My work there confirmed that I was going down the right path and I knew that I wanted to be a Criminal Defense Attorney even more.

I have always had a passion for helping people and protecting their rights. I am extremely excited to bring my passion to the Criminal Defense Team!
